To safely adjust an infant requires both extra training above and beyond normal chiropractic college, as well as lots of experience. I have both. I have been trained by four of the best pediatric chiropractors through the International Chiropractors Association Council on Pediatrics as well as an organization called the Peter Pan Potential. My real interest in children began with repeated ear infections suffered by my daughter while I was in school, and then my son 5 years later. And it was my son that was really my first real pediatric patient with a nasty left ear infection. Although results are not always as dramatic, can you imagine my shock and pleasure at seeing his infection clear up the next morning after just one adjustment? And ear infections are just the beginning of why kids need chiropractic care too.
It seems far preferable to clear up spinal damage (subluxation) as soon as possible rather than letting it stay and fester in the infant/child spine, only to grow and become a bigger and bigger problem as he/she grows. That’s like letting a boil just grow and fester and never do anything about it. We would never allow that to happen to our kids. So if it makes sense that spinal injury (subluxation) can occur during the birth process, or during the thousands of falls that we take while learning to walk, to ride, to climb, to skate, to slide, to hang, to jump, to swing, and so on, then doesn’t it too make sense to fix it as soon as possible? Of course it does.
Remember, the biggest study of its kind of over 1000 infants showed that the most common consequence of subluxation in the young child is that they get ear, nose, and throat infections more easily. If you have kids, has he or she ever had an ear, nose, or throat infection? Well, to the best of my knowledge, Abby and Ryan haven’t and they are 8 and 5 this year. Hmm.
As you finish reading this my hope is that if you have kids that you are thinking about the possibilities. If so, get a copy of our Children’s Policy available in the reception room. In general, kids are where I give back so care is often at little or no charge. And remember, they may be smaller than you and I but they are a lot more active. And kids got spines too.
