Each person enters in my office for a different reason, usually involving some sort of pain, but not always. And as such there are as many real benefits to chiropractic care as there are patients. But in this article I intend to go over some of the most important benefits of being subluxation-free.
It starts with an article in Time Magazine in 2004 that discussed the dangers of inflammation to every aspect of health. Due to that research dentists are now regularly advertising the importance of good dental hygiene to protect you from cancer and heart disease, and they are right on. For example, it turns out that the greatest predictor of heart attack is not cholesterol, but inflammation, inflammation from infection, from injury, and from arthritis. Inflammation is really bad for your health.
Next comes research done a long time ago by Henry Winsor, M.D. To be brief, in the 97 cadavers he studied, he found 221 diseased organs, 212 of which who’s nerve supply came directly from the area of the spine with the greatest misalignment. What he showed is that there is a real and direct connection between the spine, the nerve system, and disease. Spinal misalignment is bad for your health.
And finally research from Finland. They found that when a joint in the body is restricted in its motion there will be permanent and irreversible degeneration of that joint in just 2 weeks. When the motion is restored, the degeneration stops, but will not reverse. Joint fixation is bad for your joint health.
With those three as background, let’s ask the question “what’s in it for me?” When you get adjusted on a consistent basis so that we see a reduction in the signs of subluxation there are three distinct processes that go on. First, the amount of inflammation that your spine produces is dramatically reduced. This results in less inflammation throughout the body which, according to Time Magazine, improves your health.
Next, reducing subluxation reduces nerve irritation and compression, thereby improving organ function per the Winsor research. Improved nerve and organ function can only enhance your wellness and improve both quality and quantity of your life.
Finally, since subluxation is by definition reduced motion of the joints of the spine, and since reduced motion will lead to accelerated degeneration per the Finland research, then getting adjusted will stop or at least slow down joint degeneration in the spine, which will lead to a healthier spine throughout life, less arthritis and inflammation, and better nerve function, which goes back to the previous 2 paragraphs.
So what’s in it for you and me and everyone who is on a chiropractic wellness program is less inflammation, better nerve function, and slowing degeneration. AKA, more health. That’s why I get adjusted every week. I hope that’s why you do to.
