You’ve heard of the dark ages, the medieval age, the bronze age, the iron age, the information age, the industrial age, and even old age, but today we discuss the middle ages. It could be that the middle ages are the time when you are between your young ages and your old ages, or it could also be when your middle parts age and get bigger creating dunlops disease, which is when your belly dun lops over your belt. Although it is technically never too late until you are gone from this planet, if you are in your middle ages it is time to plan, time to take action, while there is still some youth to lean on. If you are still young, why wait until your youth is spent to preserve some of it. And if you are old, which means something different to each of us, there is no waiting until tomorrow. What am I talking about? Your body was given just so much youth, and the more and longer you work at preserving it, the longer your body will last.
As an exercise go to facebook and look at accounts of people who have pictures of them now and when they were in high school. You will see some have been better preserved than others, and with some rare genetic exceptions, those that are better preserved have worked at it. But this is just the outside and has little to do with what is going on inside. And it is the insides that determine your future, your level of health, your types of diseases, and your wellness. Like those who work so hard to keep their outside young, you must work at keeping the inside as young. Beautiful people die and plain people thrive. I am writing this to you to motivate you to take action today, now, regardless of your age, but especially if you are in the middle time of your life. You still have some youth that you can capitalize on, to prolong, and when that youth is gone it will be irrevocably gone forever. The proof of that is what we see when we go to a convalescent home. Youth lost.
I know there are no words that can make a person begin to take better care of themselves. You must want it. But words are all I have and I use those words to describe my path, to motivate you to take your own path. For those of you who have not heard or read the story, at the age of 39 I ended up in the hospital for nothing more than not taking care of myself. In my poor self management I was letting my youth slip away faster that it should have. I was given a warning, a shot across the bow. I am thankful for that day for it has changed me. Today I am healthier than I was in 2001 because I have worked at it. The outside appears older but the inside works better. I have taken action before it was too late, before the youth was gone. I acted in my middle ages. I challenge you to do the same, before it is too late. I call the program “Just One More Thing.”
