The purpose of this article is to briefly and concisely review the rationale and benefits of chiropractic care. This discussion begins with the three benefits of care which are tied into the three phases of care.
FIRST BENEFIT SYMPTOM REDUCTION
CARE PHASE INITIAL INTENSIVE
Most, but certainly not all, new patients come to my office due to a symptom, often a pain. As all my patients know, my goal is to correct the subluxation, not to make the pain go away. However, if the pain is due to subluxation and if the patient has not waited too long so that there is irreversible damage to the spine, then 95% of chiropractic patients will be happy with the results of Initial Intensive Care. The goal is 50% correction of the subluxation during this phase of care. This will take a few weeks.
SECOND BENEFIT SLOWING/STOPPING SPINAL DEGENERATION
CARE PHASE RECONSTRUCTIVE
Once you have achieved approximately 50% correction of each component of the subluxation, you qualify for reconstructive care (RC). The measurable goal of RC is as close to 100% correction of each of the components of subluxation. The benefit is that spinal degeneration will be slowed and perhaps stopped, depending upon a number of factors. RC will take several months.
THIRD BENEFIT INCREASED WELLNESS
CARE PHASE WELLNESS
Once the subluxation has been corrected as much as possible in your case, this is the time where the nerve system can heal, body can return to health, and body chemistry can optimize. This translates into a more integrated nerve system in control of all bodily functions and health, less total body inflammation, and greater anti-oxidant ability due to increased thiol concentrations (see 22B and 23).
