How many times does it take you to learn a lesson? Every time you drive over 100 mph you get a ticket. After 3 tickets you learn to not drive over 100. That is 3 trial learning. Every time you touch the hot stove you get burned. After 2 trips to the emergency room you learn to not touch the stove. 2 trial learning. Every time you eat a peanut you swell like a balloon and nearly die. It only takes one time to learn this lesson. Single trial learning. So zero trial learning is when you make the right choice the first time without any prior experience or need. Rare enough in real life, but still a very worthwhile goal with each choice you make.
One example of this is diet. As a youth I could eat all I wanted without consequence. Therefore, in my 20’s I ballooned. After the first trial of being overweight I dropped 30 pounds, went back to the old ways and proceeded over the next few years to put back on 37. After losing that weight I finally changed my lifestyle to keep it off. So weight control has been a two trial learning experience for me. Zero would have been better.
Recently I had a patient return from being out of care for a couple of years. He came to me originally in pain as most of you do. I explained to him the concept of the subluxation, how it can be corrected and managed, but also how age, gravity, and life will bring it back over time. He went through the Initial Intensive Care and through Reconstructive Care, was satisfied and left without continuing in Wellness Care. Two years later the subluxation slowly returned and so did pain. So now we start over. If he had originally continued with Wellness Care that would have been single trial learning. As it is he has learned the truth and reality of subluxation from life experience, rather than from our educational process. If he continues onto Wellness Care this time it will be a two trial learning experience for him. If not, perhaps a third time will be necessary. We’ll see.
Zero trial learning with regard to subluxation is to correct it before there is a symptom, for it can be easily detected whether there are symptoms or not. Most likely you are in your first, and hopefully your last, trial with regard to subluxation. When you bring in a friend or a loved one for subluxation detection and correction before they hurt you are helping them to do something that you did not, correct the cause before there is a problem. To prevent. And while science is always looking for the ultimate cure for all disease, wellness advocates like myself would say that prevention is the surest cure. Zero trial learning.
