Many of you asked why the number just above in between the question marks has been there all year. At the beginning of the year it was 5769 and has climbed steadily throughout the year to its culmination today of 300,000. For those of you that did not see it or ask about it what it represents it is the approximate number of people in this country that have been killed by the practice of medicine this past year. In reality, it’s likely many more. While occasionally necessary, the tools of medicine are very dangerous and are documented to be the third leading killer in America behind heart disease and cancer. What this means to me in my life is that I must do what I can to try to avoid having to use medicine both today and in the future. One of my goals in life is to go through my life with as little medical intervention as I possible. And the older I get the more I come to realize just how difficult a challenge that can be. This next series of articles will be dedicated to the simple things that you can do to keep out of the medical office. This week’s article will act as an overall introduction.
Many of my articles are written surrounding a health philosophy that I call “Just One More Thing.” If you have been around me for any length of time you will know about this approach. It is my contention that the best method for you to employ to create wellness for yourself and your family is through the daily application of this “just one more thing” concept. It states that the road to wellness is through the systematic addition of one healthy behavior at a time until that behavior is part of your regular lifestyle. And then once that behavior is part of your lifestyle you add just one more thing again until it too is part of your lifestyle. I have written about this many times and I do so here once again because it is the cornerstone of your future health and wellness. Entropy, a law of the universe that states that all matter moves increasingly towards disorder, is acting on your body right now. As negative as it sounds it is true that the adult body is in a continual state of decay until death. However, entropy can be fought and the earlier you begin this fight, the less decay your body will have. We all will pass from this life but we have some control over when and how that passing will be, and the quality of our lives up to that fateful day, but you must begin now!
Over the next weeks I will discuss another “just one more thing” at a time, how to incorporate it into your life, and why you should do so. Depending upon where you are in this journey you may wish to keep a copy of these articles for future reference as you add healthy behaviors into your life. Some of you are well on the road, some of your are way ahead of me, and some have never heard of this idea before, so the articles will have to be written to all. It is my New Year’s wish and hope to see you take this to heart, to see you embrace wellness.
